Recycling Center closed; mandatory Herndon area curbside recycling in effect

As of Monday, July 5th, the Town of Herndon's recycling center located at 1481 Sterling Road has permanently closed.


From Town of Herndon's website:

Herndon Residents are advised to take full advantage of the existing Wendesday pickup of curbside recycling.


RECYCLABLES
  • Newspapers (including all inserts)
  • Magazines, catalogs and junk mail
  • Cardboard and paperboard boxes (including cereal boxes without liners)
  • Corrugate boxes
  • Computer printouts, office paper and envelopes
  • Books  (paperbacks, textbooks, and hardbacks)
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Brown paper bags (craft)
  • Telephone books
  • Glass containers such as jars and bottles
  • Ferrous and bi-metal food and beverage containers
  • Non-metallic wrapping paper
  • Aluminum foil and aluminum pie pans
  • Aluminum food and beverage containers
  • Narrow-neck plastic containers (no motor oil containers) carry plastic resin with code 1 - 7
  • Wide-mouth containers such as peanut butter, margarine tubs, yogurt, mayonnaise, RX bottles
  • Bagged plastic film (for example: grocery bags contained within 1-bag, or stretch-film and/or shrink wrap contained within 1-bag)
  • Milk cartons and juice boxes

COMPUTERS are now covered by a law that requires manufacturers to recycle their computers for free. Contact the manufacturer for further information.
